Share a Coke

Coca-Cola is one of the most recognized brands in the world. Red Olive was asked to design a mobile app that would drive the company's new Share a Coke campaign. After extensive research, we determined that the most effective strategy would be to use local merchants in select areas to form the groundwork for the campaign. Location-based deals would increase the app's staying power. The goals were a clean, simple design and an engaging experience that would bring users back consistently.

Planning

While the social aspect was important, we knew that we had to start with a clean user interface. By eliminating any extraneous information or functionality, we were able to break the design down to its core elements. The resulting mockup was simple, strong, and elegant.

An Iconic Brand

When dealing with a brand of this size, visual assets are easy to find. The real trick is to use them sparingly, in a way that won't overwhelm the user or clutter the design. The app had to reflect the simple, effective branding that has made Coke an international icon.

Mobilizing the Campaign

The Share a Coke campaign has been a huge success. Although the campaign targets teens and millennials, it seems that everyone has searched for their name at some point. We designed the app around the social aspect of the campaign — the goal was to give users a central location to share.

The resulting design reached every goal that we had set forth. Clean, well-designed, and effective, the prototype clearly demonstrated our strategy to engage with users and make them want to return again and again.
